Civil War Sites Advisory Commission Priority List
The Civil War Sites Advisory Commission uses the following criteria to indicate the level of historical significance, the integrity of the remaining battlefield features, and the level of threat to the battlefield’s existence:
- Priority I (sites considered the most threatened) to Priority IV (sites considered all but lost)
- Class A (the most historically significant sites) to Class D (sites of local importance)

- Battle of Malvern Hill - 07/01/1862
- Second Battle of Bull Run - 08/28/1862
- Battle of Antietam - 09/17/1862
- Battle of Perryville - 10/08/1862
- Siege of Port Hudson - 03/21/1863
- Battle of Chancellorsville - 04/30/1863
- Battle of Vicksburg - 05/18/1863
- Battle of Gettysburg - 07/01/1863
- Battle of Chickamauga - 09/18/1863
- Third Battle of Chattanooga - 11/23/1863
- Battle of the Wilderness - 05/05/1864
- Battle of Spotsylvania Court House - 05/08/1864
- Battle of Cold Harbor - 05/31/1864
- Battle of Mobile Bay - 08/02/1864
- Battle of Cedar Creek - 10/19/1864
- Battle of Bentonville - 03/19/1865
- Battle of Petersburg III - 04/02/1865
